36 as this is my first post to this list, I'd like to take the opportunity to
37 a) say
"Hi
" to everybody else and b) thank Andy Church and TheShadow for
38 giving us this great irc services package. You're my heroes!
40 Okay, so here's my problem:
42 I've been running
4.4.7 for a while, and it was working great until my
43 machine died a horrible death at the hands of a few mysql threads gone
44 haywire. After the reboot everything was back to normal, *except* services
45 wouldn't start up (and segfaulted instead).
47 I have pretty amateurish (or rather non-existant) debugging skills, but I've
48 managed to squeeze this bit of info out of gdb:
52 Starting program: /home/ircserv/services
54 Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.
55 0x400b636b in strtok () from /lib/libc.so
.6
58 Single stepping until exit from function strtok,
59 which has no line number information.
61 Program terminated with signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.
62 The program no longer exists.
65 Now, since that started happening I've tried everything from different (old
66 and new) versions of ircservices, using new data files, writing a new
67 services.conf, and so on and so on and so on, all to no effect -- whatever
68 version I compiled would segfault on me, just like described above.
70 So it seems logical that it must have something to do with libc.so
.6, but if
71 that's the case, why isn't more stuff on the machine broken? I'm confused.
73 In case you're wondering about versions, here's my libc.so
.6 from /lib:
76 -rwxr-xr-x
1 root root
1057576 Oct
13 18:
45 libc-
2.1.95.so
77 lrwxrwxrwx
1 root root
14 Oct
16 09:
53 libc.so
.6 -

81 Granted, I know nothing about debugging, so there's probably a better way to
82 find the culprit that I'm not aware of. Or is this just a compatibility
83 issue between ircservices and libc-
2.1.95? After all, services was running
84 for a *long* time, and I've done various upgrades to my Debian systems since
87 Any help would be highly appreciated!
89 Thanks
& take care,
