  37 We are currently writing a script in PHP that allows a user to register his
  38 nickname with Nickserv via a web interface. The script connects to the IRC
  39 server, registers the nickname with the desired password, and logs off.

  41 Our problem is the following: what can the script do if the requested
  42 nickname is already in use?

  44 Therefore, I wanted to know your ideas on how to work around this problem.
  45 At the moment, we're thinking about trying to modify services to allow a
  46 certain user to register nicknames without needing to take them first.
