| * new users. If you would like to be put on an IRC mailing list to be *
| * notified of any IRC-related events, please send mail to *

| 1. IRC GUIDELINES: | |
| ||
| In addition to the normal University ethics guidelines for use of computing
| facilities, the following points are emphasised. By using IRC, you agree
| to abide by these guidelines, which are designed to promote efficient and
| proper use of University equipment.
| ||
| o Do not compromise University security. IRC is interactive, meaning that
| users can be coerced into taking courses of action they would not
| normally undertake. Ensure that you do not participate (knowingly or
| otherwise) in "hacking". In particular, do not reveal your account
| password to ANYONE over the network, no matter how much you trust him/her.
| ||
| o Do not permit your use of IRC to prevent the use of computing facilities
| for University-related work. This especially applies to areas of high
| demand such as modem lines.
| ||
| o Do not use IRC as a means of harassing/disturbing others.
| ||
| o Stand-alone client users - Your setup should contain a reference to
| your e-mail address.
| ||
| Failure to comply with these guidelines will result in termination of IRC
| access. | |
