36
I was thinking more along the lines of giving them chanserv functionality,
37like a chanserv clone or some such. I think it should be an option to allow
38regular users to add it, on our server we prefer for someone have regular
39traffic to their channel before they have one of our "bots" so we don't have
40500 channels that no one goes to but have bots in them. Perhaps have
41chanserv check for the age of a channel and compare with usage before
42allowing a regular user to add it, or just allow admins to do it.

56> So the whole point in creating a BotServ is to hold some screens and fake
57> users to have them keep channels open?
58> If this is actually created, I don't think that BotServ should be it's
59name.
60>
61> What we could do is integrate a feature into ChanServ having something
62like
63> /msg chanserv screen #channel nick , where every channel can have one
64> screen with a specified nickname and this is done by the founder or anyone
65> in the access list with a level above the screen level that would be set
66>
67> How does this seem to you?

74> >We do also run a fake user to act like a bot in some channels.

81> >
82> >Will there be a botserv or similar functions in services 5.0? I noticed
83> >quite a few (including us) use operserv raw (cept we do it through a hack
84to
85> >services instead of just doing /operserv raw) to create virtual users to
86> >hold channels open. Maybe this can be expanded on where they act like
87> >chanserv, or maybe a module could be written or something. It'd be a nice
88> >feature to actually have with services rather than have to make sure our
89> >hack works with each update we do (we try to only update when a major bug
90is
91> >being fixed for this reason). If this is too
92confusing...ummm...well...I'll
93> >try to expand on it if I need to.
