Artificial iNtElLiGeNcE: Quora edition

Had the displeasure of visiting Quora today, and I want to share with you the answers I found. (Once I got all the “here are other questions you might enjoy” hidden away.)

Question: Can military submarines reach the Titanic wreck site?

Human answer 1: No. …
AI: Military submarines are capable of reaching the depth of the Titanic wreck site …
Human answer 2: No. …
Human answer 3: No they can’t. …
Human answer 4: Sure, as a shower of mangled metal. …

As per usual, the AI has gotten it so obviously wrong that the first sentence of every single other answer directly contradicts it.

Here’s the full AI response:

Military submarines are capable of reaching the depth of the Titanic wreck site, which is approximately 12,500 feet below the surface of the North Atlantic Ocean. Some military submarines have the capability to operate at such depths for exploration or research purposes. However, it’s important to note that accessing the Titanic wreck site is subject to various legal and environmental considerations, as it is a protected maritime heritage site.

So the first sentence says “oh yeah, absolutely”; the second sentence says “but actually not”; and then the third sentence reminds us that it’s illegal for plebs like us to go down to the Titanic the next time we’re out in our multi-million-dollar hobby submarine.

Definitely a situation in which I might find myself, thanks Quora. Don’t know what I would have done without your AI mastery.
